Heather Lefkowitz, M.D.
Program Director, Nephrology Fellowship

Dr. Lefkowitz received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and her internship and residency training at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical College. She completed her fellowship in nephrology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and graduated summa cum laude with a biology degree from Yeshiva University. Dr. Lefkowitz is a member of the AOA Honors Society and has also co-authored several articles in the field of Nephrology. She is on the Medical Board of the Renal Network that oversees New Jersey dialysis units.

Neil Lyman, M.D.
Chief, Division of Nephrology
Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Dr. Lyman graduated from Case Western Reserve University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Alpha Omega Alpha). He was an intern, resident, and chief medical resident at Mount Sinai Medical Center and nephrology fellow at Boston University School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Lyman is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and is the author of several medical publications. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Subspecialist of the Year Award in 1991-1992 and the Golden Apple Award in 1995-1996.

Robert Zenenberg, D.O.
Attending Nephrologist

Dr. Zenenberg, who is board certified in both internal Medicine and nephrology, completed a fellowship from New York University. He completed a residency in internal medicine from the University of Connecticut Health System, Farmington/Hartford, CT, and an internship in osteopathic medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an undergraduate degree in molecular/cellular biology from the University of Connecticut. His published research includes, "Hyponatremia: Evaluation and Management," Hospital Practice, Feb. 2010. He was listed as a "Top Doctor for 2011" in New Jersey Monthly.

Ryan J. Goldberg, M.D.
Transplant Physician

Dr. Goldberg, board certified in internal medicine and nephrology, joined the Renal and Pancreas Transplant Program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in 2010 from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO. While there, he completed two fellowships, both in AST/ASN renal transplant and general nephrology, and a residency in internal medicine. He received a post-baccalaureate degree from the University of Colorado at Denver, Denver, CO, and an undergraduate from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. His research includes “Dysregulation of the alternative pathway of complement activation within the glomerulus and development of thrombotic microangiopathy.

Shamkant Mulgaonkar, M.D.
Chief, Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division

Dr. Mulgaonkar is one of the preeminent professionals in transplantation in New Jersey. He has been instrumental in the rapid growth of transplantation here and championed the development of the Living Donor Transplant Programs at both Saint Barnabas and Newark Beth Israel Medical Centers. He is a dynamic leader who has cared for more than 1,500 kidney transplant recipients since the 1970s. He is largely responsible for the success of Barnabas Health's Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division as one of the most highly regarded programs in the United States.

Dr. Mulgaonkar is past president of the Transplant Society of New Jersey and has twice been name "New Jersey Transplant Professional of the Year" He was also named "Transplant Physician of the Year" in 1996. His major research interests include transplant immunology, clinical trials of newer immunosuppressants, and allograft thrombosis. He has led clinical research trials in the use of many novel immunosuppressants and has published over 100 scientific papers in peer review journals. He is on the speaker bureau of numerous transplant pharmaceutical companies who are leaders in the field of transplant immunosuppression. Dr. Mulgaonkar is a member of a number of professional societies including the American Society of Nephrology, the American Medical Association, The Renal Physicians Association, The Transplant Society of New Jersey, and the United Network for Organ Sharing. He is also on the board of the New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network.
