Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease that causes ulcers (sores) in the large intestine (colon). UC causes symptoms such as abdominal pain, cramping and bloody diarrhea. Ulcerative Colitis can be mild, moderate, or severe, and your doctor may treat it with medications to stop your diarrhea and to control inflammation, or surgery. Ulcerative Colitis can also cause complications outside of the GI tract like joint pain, and eye and skin problems. This is a serious disease which should be treated by a specialist, most often a gastroenterologist.
