Breast Cancer Awareness Doesn’t End on October 31

Breast cancer doesn’t know April from June, or December from January, which is why it can strike at any time. At RWJBarnabas Health, we recognize that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but we also recognize that breast cancer is something to be aware of year round.

About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

In 2016, it is estimated that there will be 246,660 new cases of female breast cancer and an estimated 40,450 people will die of this disease.

Although breast cancer in men is rare, this year an estimated 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 440 will die.

Less than 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member who has been diagnosed with the disease.

Early detection saves lives. Request an appointment for a mammogram now.
