GENERAL MEDICINE FACULTY SERVICE
Duration: 4 Blocks (4 weeks/block)
Description: General medicine inpatient rotation directly under the Faculty
of the Department of Medicine. There are 2 general medicine ward teams.
Each team consists of a teaching internist, 1 PGY-2/PGY-3 resident, 2
PGY-1 residents and 1-2 medical students. Morning bedside rounds are held
daily. Each team takes complete charge of their patients. Subspecialty
consultations may be requested as appropriate. Patients admitted under
the Faculty service will eventually be followed by the medical residents
in their weekly continuity clinic upon discharge.
GENERAL MEDICINE FLOORS
Duration: 4 Blocks (4 weeks/block)
Description: General medicine inpatient rotation under the private teaching
attending/Hospitalist service. There are 2 general medicine floor teams.
Each team consists of 1 PGY-2 resident, 2 PGY-1 residents, and 1-2 medical
students. Mentor rounds are held daily. Each team coordinates the care
of their patients with various private and subspecialty attendings, under
the supervision of the PGY-2 resident.
INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Duration: 2 Blocks (4 weeks/block)
Description: Each ICU team consists of 2 PGY-3 residents, 1 PGY-2 resident,
and 2 PGY-1 residents. Residents gain experience in critical care, ventilator
management, and vasopressor support. Multidisciplinary rounds with a teaching
intensivist, respiratory therapists, critical care nurses, pharmacists,
clergy, case managers and auxiliary staff are held daily. Critical Care
lectures are also done daily.
PRIMARY CARE
Duration: 1 Block (4 weeks)
Description: Residents work one-on-one with a private primary care physician
in his or her private medical office. Residents are expected to gain experience
in outpatient management of common medical outpatient complaints.
AMBULATORY MEDICINE
Duration: 1 Block (4 weeks)
Description: Residents rotate through various medical outpatient clinics,
which include Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopedics,
ED-Urgent Care, and Gynecology. Residents gain experience in performing
psychiatric assessments and common outpatient procedures like fundoscopy,
otoscopy, Papanicolaou smears and speculum examination.
