Pediatric Residency Curriculum
Overview
The academic year has a total of 13 4-week blocks. The curriculums begins
by setting a solid foundation for the interns followed by opportunities
to hone their supervising and teaching skills as they progress in their
residency. Teaching of students, each other, and even faculty are encouraged
and expected.
Continuity Clinic at the Pediatric Health Center, L-5 Pediatrics, or the
Saint Barnabas Pediatric Health Center is ½ day per week. PGY-3
residents may add a second ½ day to individualize their learning
to future goals, such as a subspecialty clinic.
Individualized Learning Plans follow the ACGME’s recommendations
and, in addition, are very flexible and almost as unique as each resident’s needs.
Overnight calls are mostly handled via the night float system, but some
traditional 24 hour calls are required by PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents. The
"night float" week begins on a Sunday or Monday night for a
max of 5 days.
Vacation each year is split into two 2-week blocks. Requests are allowed
and our chiefs strive to accommodate them to the best of the program’s
ability. Residents also get 5 additional days as Paid Time Off.
