Residency Purpose
The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at RWJ Somerset is a 12-month program
designed to advance the practice of clinical and hospital based pharmacists.
The resident will develop knowledge and skills in direct patient care
with experiences in both acute and ambulatory care settings, teaching,
and research. Additionally the resident will be mentored in the development
of pharmacy leadership skills that will serve the graduate in a variety
of integrated health care systems.
The program builds on PharmD education and outcomes to contribute to the
development of a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related
care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification,
and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
We intend to prepare our residents by: 1) fostering an environment of excellence
in all areas including the provision of the highest quality, evidenced
based patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals,
2) advancing patient care by the diffusion of medical knowledge and teaching,
and 3) exhibiting stewardship over the hospitals pharmaceutical resources.
The program has been designed to meet all standards and requirements of
the American System of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and the residency
is currently in candidate status.
