Radiology Residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center
The Saint Barnabas Radiology Department selects four residents per year
for a total of sixteen plus one fellow in Mammography. The residents rotate
in monthly blocks through the following sections – fluoroscopy,
chest, bone, ultrasound, CT, interventional, nuclear medicine, and MRI.
The American Institute of Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) in Washington, DC
is a four week radiology/pathology correlative program offered to all
residents. Pediatric radiology is taken at the Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia (CHOP).
Residents are evaluated semi-annually and must sit for the ACR In-Service
examination annually. All evaluations are discussed individually with
the residents. In preparation for the Radiology Core Exam residents undergo
an intensive board review. Residents may attend a course during their
upper years and any resident presenting a paper will be sent by the medical
center to the presentation site. Clinical research is strongly supported
and each resident is expected to complete, and submit for publication,
at least one article during training.
Conferences are given daily and include noon conferences, Tumor Boards,
Autopsy Conference and Journal Club.
Residents are also involved in the teaching program at Saint Barnabas.
Residents present and review cases for other medical center departments
and participate in inter and intra departmental conferences. In addition,
senior residents give the incoming first year residents a formal two-month
course. Beginning in September of each year, Saint George’s, students
spend a one-month elective in the department. Residents have the opportunity
to teach rotating students and transitional interns who spend a one-month
elective in the radiology department.
After finishing their training almost all residents continue on to fellowships
at prestigious programs including the University of Indiana, Baylor College
of Medicine, Houston, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Tufts,
Yale, Columbia, the Children’s Hospital of L.A. the National Children’s
Hospital, Washington, DC, and UT Southwestern, Dallas. Those residents
who desire positions directly out of residency have not experienced any
difficulty in obtaining excellent positions both in private and academic
practice. We are seeking bright, hard-working, enthusiastic individuals
who are dedicated to learning and can work well with others.
Our residents/fellow are an important part of the Saint Barnabas family.

of the department and medical center and we are looking forward to its
